Welcome!

This site has been designed to provide further information regarding our two innovative and exciting Study Centres and the government initiative Playing for Success (PFS).  Our Centres are based at the University of Bedfordshire and Bedford Sports and Hockey Centre.

At the Bedford Study Support Centre our motto is T.L.T - Tackling Learning Together

Through our programme of study, we aim to assist local schools in raising achievement by motivating pupils to become more effective learners through activities that improve the core skills of numeracy, literacy and ICT.  In addition the Centres will develop the pupils’ self esteem, confidence, independent study skills and foster/establish a positive attitude to learning.

 Who we are

Karen Price has been Centre Manager since 2001 when the project initially began, and before this was a teacher in Northamptonshire.  She has worked hard to develop the two centres, and enjoys working with the pupils and seeing the results which are achieved. Over the years Karen has seen many pupils participate in the scheme, and has tried to encourage all of them to have a go, and enjoy themselves.  Karen has worked hard on 'Quality in Study Support' (QiSS) and has achieved Emerging and Established status for the Centre.

Over the years Karen has built a strong reputation at the study centre and has been able to support many of the schools within the borough.  She has enjoyed working with lower and middle school pupils, and is keen for the Centre to continue developing its links within the community.

Paddy Boylan has worked at the Centre since May 2006, and before this he was the head teacher at St. Gregory’s Middle School.  Paddy has enjoyed returning to the classroom and becoming involved in helping pupils increase their self esteem and confidence.  Over the last few years Paddy has become involved in monitoring and evaluating the pupils attending the scheme, and highlighting how these improvements can help the pupils at the Centre and back at school.

Paddy has a great sense of humour and a happy smile which all the pupils warm to and enjoy their time together.

Aleatha Cumberbatch has been at the Centre since April 2008 and runs the Wednesday session.  Over the year Aleatha has enjoyed driving the buses, working with the pupils and seeing the improvement in her groups.  Aleatha is very keen for pupils to gain confidence in sharing ideas and voicing opinions, she is very involved in drama and how this can improve childrens self-esteem and confidence.
